Best things to do on New Year's Eve in Porto (if we weren't on a pandemy)

If you are coming to Porto for the New Year's Eve celebration you have made an excellent choice. Not only Porto is one of the liveliest towns in Portugal in the last night of the year, but also because you can take your time to get to know the city better, a city full of history, culture and heritage. Of course, this situation can't be applied to the current year since we are in the middle of a terrible pandemy caused by Covid-19 virus (SARS-Cov-2). We hope that next year will be better so we can enjoy this beautiful place with friends and family.

Now, let's check some of the best activities to do in this special night.

Enjoy the Christmas Lights

Christmas and the New Year's Eve in Porto are two major events for all people in Porto, and experienced with great intensity and joy by all of those who visit the city this time of the year. As always, Porto has lit up the city with light and illuminated Christmas Trees.

Warm up with wine and chocolate at the Port Wine Cellars

Can you think of a better combination than wine and chocolate for the Holiday season? At Caves Croft, one of the most famous Port Wine Cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia, you can taste both in a wine and chocolate tasting that will delight you and warm you up. The visit to Caves Croft include a tour to the ageing cellars and tasting of three Port wines special category: Pink, Reserve, Tawny 10 years and Tawny 20 years tasting as well as two different chocolates from one of the best chocolate producers in Portugal.

Watch and enjoy the animation and fireworks

The city of Porto is known, at this time, for its beauty and Christmas decorations. You can't miss the fantastic New Year's Eve with animation and fireworks. One of the best places to see is, without a doubt, Avenida dos Aliados, usually full of people celebrating New Year's Eve.

This are some of the activities you can do on New Year's Eve. As we said, this year needs to be different in order to end up with the current situation.

Stay at home, and most importantly stay safe, with your family and you will see that 2021 will be better.

    1. I spent the 15/16 new year's in Porto at the "Avenida dos Aliados" and it was a really cool experience. If being around lots of people is your thing , i'd go for it as soon as its safe out there!

    2. Isaac Jordan is right. Went to Avenida dos Aliados on 17/18 new year's eve and the environment is very welcoming. Portuguese people are very kind. You also have the area where you can see the Ponte D. Luis I, always illuminated with fireworks!
