Ferreira Cellars: Wine Cellar Company
In Porto, there are a lot of Wine Cellars which most of them are port of huge enterprised named Sogrape. Cellars like Sandeman since 2002, Casa Ferreirinha, Offley, Flichman and many many others. Besides those big two companies said before (Sandeman and Offley), there is one that has a big highlight among them: The Ferreira Cellar.
Ferreira is a Port Wine brand that exists for 250 years and it is located in Vila Nova de Gaia, right in the south bank of The Douro ahead to the big city of Porto. Therefore, taste a bit of these wines is like tasting every bit of The Douro and every bit of Port Wine's history.
It was created in 1751 by D. Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, a businesswoman who dedicated most of her life to the Port Wine.
As many cellars that Sogrape can have none of them has a particularity like Ferreira Cellars: this is the only Wine Company that has been owned by only and only portuguese people.
Over the time, this cellar has always defends it values:
- Conction To the Earth;
- Passion;
- Sophistication.
Vintage Wine House
This wine house is the image itself of the tipical Port Wine and its considered all over the world for its excellent wine.
With its 250 years of production and tradition, the Ferreira has the best wine house of Vintage Port and it is a reference in this sector with a stock of wine dating back the year 1815, so this wine house has wies from years even older than D. Antónia Ferreira.
The most known old harvest are from this years:
- 1815;
- 1820;
- 1834;
- 1847.
Awards
Throughout the years, Ferreira's wine were awarded several times in the most diverse international territory:
- In 1876, in the USA, they won the golden medal at the Philadelphia Internacional Exhibition;
- In 1900, in France, they won, again, the golden medal at the Paris Universal Exhibition;
- In 2009, in the United Kingdom, they won the International Wine Challenge;
- In 2008 and 2010, in France, they won the Vinales Internacionales;
- In 2009, in the United Kingdom, they won The Decanter World Awards.
That's a very interesting cellar with an old history! It's amazing how old stuff can be so good!

Can we visit the cellar?
ReplyDeleteHello , Ferreira's Cellar is open from 10 am- 18 pm ,but during the lockdown there's a big chance its closed to the public.
